A Beautiful Night to Head Down to the Worcester Common

It's shaping up to be a beautiful summer day today, make plans now to meet friends and family at the Worcester Common Oval this evening for the first of three FREE shows as part of WFW's Movies on the Common 2013 series.

The event kicks off around 6 pm with live music from the 7 Hills Ukulele Combo. At 7, Niki Luparelli and the Gold Diggers go on. We all have our own ways of passing time during the lazy days of summer, and the hours before the movie starts are great for playing games and hanging out with family and friends. To date we have witnessed kids playing Frisbee, wiffle ball and hula hoops, and adults playing cards and board games. One of my great memories of summer is playing backgammon with my dad. I'm still looking for that first chess or backgammon board to show up on the Common!

As in past years, Cumulus Media, owner of local radio stations WXLO 104.5 FM, The Pike 100 FM and WORC 98.9 FM will have their street team on site and Mary Knight, midday host on XLO, will be there.

The City of Worcester offers free Wi-Fi on the Common.

Confirmed vendors include The Dogfather and Mediterranean Hut. WFW will also have delivery menus available from several area restaurants including Theatre Cafe, 529 Main St. and Woosta Pizza, 407 Main St. WFW will be selling fresh popcorn and Polar sodas, water and seltzers.

Your best bet for parking is the Worcester Library (McGrath) parking lot on Salem St, where parking is free after 8 pm and just $0.70 per hour before then. The lot is less than a 5 min.walk to the Worcester Common Oval. Remember, park smart - make sure all valuables are out of sight and lock all doors.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off will kick off at dusk. And for die hard Ferris fans, yes, we will be showing the whole movie, credits and all!

And don't forget, Out to Lunch has moved to Thursday's this year and kicks off the season today at noon.
